DESCRIPTION - THE UNDERGROUND PASSAGES THAT GO FAR BEYOND THE TOUR

The Seattle Underground is a tourist attraction known by many as a fun distraction for wayward vacationers. It has been long established to have been created during the Great Seattle Fire of 1889 that destroyed 25 city blocks prompting Seattle’s mayor to decree that all new buildings must be of stone or brick, insurance against a similar disaster in the future; and to regrade the streets one to two stories higher than the original street grade. Pioneer Square had originally been built mostly on filled-in tidelands and, as a consequence, it often flooded. The new street level also assisted in ensuring that gravity-assisted flush toilets that funneled into Elliott Bay did not back up at high tide. This left an intriguing area of underground buildings that has become one of the more popular tourist attractions in Seattle. But the real Seattle Underground, hidden by a potent Fae glamour, has existed for much longer and is only marginally related to its more mundane cousin.

ASPECT: Deeper Than You Think

What few realize is that there are extensive tunnels and passages that lead in and out of the Nevernever. These ways allow passage throughout the entire region if one could only properly navigate the labyrinthine paths. In fact it is said that the only way to find the fabled Emerald City is through the tunnels of the Underground. No one is sure that the city even exists but there are many stories and rumors of its fabled riches and the power that can found there.

Initially the Underground was ruled by a tribe of RED CAPS of the Winter Court who preyed on mortals causing more missing persons cases than any other single group of creatures in the Seattle area. That is until the coming of Cyrus Grey. No one truly knows who or what Grey is but when he arrived in Seattle area in the 1880s he drove the Red Caps out of the Underground dispatching them with a legendary display of brutality and power. To this day the Fae of the region speak of Cyrus Grey with great trepidation in their hearts. No one knows why he settled in the Underground or what he does down there but few are willing to risk the wrath of Cyrus Grey to find out. He is seldom seen but always felt when one is traversing the Underground. In the 1920s a Knight of the Cross and a Warden of the White Council attempted to drive him from the tunnels. It is said that neither was ever heard from again.

ASPECT: THE MYSTICAL LANDSCAPE HAS BEEN CAST ASUNDER

The Earthquake that devastated the city of Seattle had a major impact on the Seattle Underground. Many of the mystic passageways collapsed, exit at completely new parts of the Nevernever or have simply ceased to exist. Even the Kulikova Clan Ghouls can no longer reliably navigate through the underground. Perhaps even more ominous is that several new passages have appeared where there were none before. Where they lead is a complete mystery.

Vitaly Kulikova

ASPECT: Ruled With An Iron Fist

In the late 1970s the Kulikova Clan of ghouls, led by a ghoul known as Vitaly, moved into the Seattle Underground. The fact that Cyrus Grey did not destroy them has been a topic of much speculation in the supernatural community though no one seems to know why he has allowed them to live in his tunnels. Safe passage to the Underground must be negotiated with Vitaly although he makes no promises of safety from Cyrus Grey or any of the other monstrous denizens of the Underground.

ASPECT:

POWER VACUUM

During the final showdown with the Mad God, Leviathan, Cyrus Grey gave up his life to prevent the Outsider from entering this plane. His absence has only begun to be felt in the Underground. Few would trifle with the mysterious Grey and now that he is gone beings that have long lain dormant are beginning to stir. Vitaly Kulikova is doing his best to police the area but he lost over half his ghouls in the conflict and is hard pressed to do so.
